If you take pride in a well-finished room and care about people having a safe place to call home, this could be the next move for you.
Right There has spent 200 years standing alongside people in Scotland, helping prevent homelessness and keeping people connected to those they love. We meet people where they are, with no judgement, and offer support that builds on their strengths.
This role is about more than a fresh coat of paint. As part of our Repairs and Maintenance Team, you’ll help care for over 600 properties, predominantly in Glasgow, and get homes ready for people to move into as quickly as possible. The details matter: the preparation, the finish, the safety checks and the care you take when working in someone’s home.
Your role
- Getting homes ready. You’ll carry out planned and reactive redecoration in empty and tenanted properties, helping make sure homes are safe, well maintained and ready to let.
- Taking pride in the finish. You’ll prepare walls, ceilings, surfaces and woodwork, carry out taping, paint and apply finishes, and strip and hang wallpaper. Most work is indoors, with some external redecoration across domestic and commercial properties.
- Keeping work moving. You’ll carry out scheduled maintenance and property inspections and respond to emergency redecoration requests when needed.
- Getting the details right. You’ll complete job orders and inspection paperwork and record your time, materials and consumables using our Housing Management System.
- Working safely. You’ll follow health and safety requirements and Right There’s policies and procedures, report concerns and help maintain a consistent, high-quality service.
- Working well with people. You’ll build respectful relationships with colleagues, contractors and the people we support, maintain clear professional boundaries and contribute ideas to improve the service.
What you bring
You know the difference good preparation and a careful finish can make. You bring practical redecoration experience, take pride in your work and understand that how you work with people matters just as much as the result. You’ll recognise yourself here.
- You have experience across a wide range of redecoration work, including preparation, painting and wallpapering.
- You have a thorough understanding of health and safety and put it into practice.
- You take initiative, find practical solutions and organise your workload when demands and priorities compete.
- You work well in a team, communicate clearly with people at all levels and consider others’ views, concerns and needs.
- You’re committed to training, keeping up to date with relevant legislation and putting Right There’s aims into practice.
- You hold a full, valid driving licence.
Experience in a similar environment, an understanding of homelessness and the needs and rights of the people we support, computer skills and flexibility around working hours would be helpful. A current CSCS card, health and safety training and a First Aid Certificate are desirable, rather than essential. If you meet the essential requirements but don’t tick every desirable box, we’d still love to hear from you.
